Details

Your Hayward Super II Pump SP3000 Series relies on the SPX3000D Strainer Cover to provide a secure seal for the pump's debris basket. This clear cover not only allows for quick visual inspection of the basket's fullness, making maintenance easier for the homeowner, but it also protects the internal pump components from larger debris. However, constant exposure to pool chemicals, UV rays, and the pressure within the system can cause the plastic to become brittle and the O-ring seal to degrade. Over time, you might notice the strainer cover developing small cracks, especially around the locking tabs or the rim where the O-ring sits. The O-ring itself can become flattened, hardened, or torn, compromising its ability to create a watertight seal. If the strainer cover or its seal fails, you'll likely experience water leaking from around the pump lid, a significant drop in your pool's water pressure, and potentially air being drawn into the system, which can cause the pump to lose prime. Continuing to run the pump with a compromised strainer cover can lead to further damage to the pump and inefficient filtration.

Pro Tip

Before reassembling, thoroughly clean the strainer cover's groove and the O-ring. Lubricating the O-ring with a silicone-based pool lubricant will ensure a better seal and make future removal much easier.
